Military Vehicle Stencils.... the easy way

Axholme Signs has been growing steadily with a loyal and wide spread customer base for the over 10 years and are at the moment undergoing some changes to how they trade and work. As avid military vehicle collectors, members of MVT and IMPS, as well as now being WWII re-enactors, Dave and his two sons Anthony and Jonathan, have spent many hours toiling over getting their own markings and stars right. Traditionally the company was a signage business and they were using their own expertise to mark up theirs and friends vehicles in the correct way. Then they realised just how much information and templates they had built up over the years and decided that because they were so passionate about it they were the right people to produce easy to use stencils for other people.
Dealing by email and telephone over the last 10 years has worked really well and has allowed customers to discuss the finer details of their requirements with a fellow vehicle collector. However sometimes you want to talk in person and sometimes you just want to quickly order an invasion star, so the company has now gone down two new directions.

Dealing by email and telephone over the last 10 years has worked really well and has allowed customers to discuss the finer details of their requirements with a fellow vehicle collector. However sometimes you want to talk in person and sometimes you just want to quickly order an invasion star, so the company has now gone down two new directions.
The first was to begin trading at Militaria shows, holding a stall for the first time at Malvern in March this year which proved such a success they will be doing the same again at the up coming show on the 16th November.
The second decision was to re-launch their website, www.axholmesigns.co.uk, with a new look and a new on-line shop. The site generally has been amended to give people more information about the types of stencils and services they provide, as well as the addition of the on line shop using PayPal shopping cart to provide a secure ordering service for hood numbers, stars and various markings which they take orders for regularly. The list of products will keep growing as customer demand increases, in fact since launching they have added their hood number t-shirts and steel bridge plates to the list.
The stencils Axholme Signs have produced in the past have always all been vinyl paint masks allowing you easily produce the finish you require with minimum fuss. The self adhesive stencils allow you to spray over the arch of the hood or in an awkward position where a board would just not be practical. Also, because they are single use they are relatively cheap to produce meaning those now and again jobs don’t take up too much cash.
However, it recently came to their attention that producing stencils for things such as K Ration crates can be quite expensive for customers when they are single use, as you need one stencil per crate for your display. So they researched the best alternative more permanent medium to use for purposes such as this and found that acrylic stencils would be just the job. They are flexible enough to not lay rigid but are a long lasting material which can be used over and over again, making them the ideal and cost effective solution for mass stencilling.
For more information visit www.axholmesigns.co.uk, or meet them at their stall at Malvern on Sunday 16th November 2008.

British Deactivated Gun Collectors Association

Current political sound bites abound about restricting legally de-activated weapons, and the annoucement that the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith wants to tighten up the law regarding pre-1995 deactivated guns. This represents a potential threat to genuine, law-abiding collectors who have spent years and not insubstantial amounts of money building their collections.

Steve Littlejohn of Arundel Militaria has set up the British Deactivated Gun Collectors Association to form a cohesive group to monitor the situation and to work to minimise the impact on genuine collectors. Steve says "As is usual in these situations, some people are stating to panic. Do not be panicked into selling your collection. No decision has been made with regard to legislation, there is no evidence that old specification weapons are a problem, or that legislation will make an iota of difference to gun crime. Or indeed what form the legislation, if any will take. If banning legal ownership of handguns only had the result in increasing gun crime how is legislating on deactivated and inoperable guns going to help?"
